In 2011, the City of Fort Wayne was designated a bronze-level Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists.The feedback that the League provided in their assessment included lots of great suggestions, including a citizen driven advocacy organization, and BFFW was born!

BFFW is assisting the City of Fort Wayne to complete our renewal application for 2016. The application process allows us to reflect on the progress we’ve made for bicycling in the past five years and to understand ways in which we can improve.

Since 2011, we have seen additional bike lanes, and our first bike box. Fort Wayne Trails has built miles of new greenway – with plans for many more. Fort 4 Fitness expanded, and they launched the Spring Cycle bicycle tour in 2011. In 2014, we enjoyed the first Kickstart Festival. Fort Wayne has 50 beautiful new bike racks, thanks to IPFW’s Sculpture with a Purpose, plus new bike shops on both sides of the city. All of this supports our growing community of cyclists.

So, here is where YOU can help, you bike lovers you!  The League needs local reviewers to share an “on the ground perspective” of our application. Weather you bike for fun, for transportation, for fitness – your input is important.
